Common Questions

Search for the answers you need to obtain some peace of mind during these uncertain times.
  • Q + A Does a Green Card Make me a Citizen?

Not quite. While permanent residency (green card) and citizenship are similar and often confused, they are two distinct categories. For example, only citizens have the right to vote. Furthermore, a citizen cannot be deported.

  • Q + A What If I’m Faced with Deportation?

If you fear that you are in danger of deportation or removal, call our firm immediately. A government attorney must prove the case against you. While a notice is far from a final verdict, the sooner you call, the sooner we can protect your stay in the U.S.

  • Q + A Does a Green Card Expire?

Yes. Most green cards are valid for 10 years. Please be aware that you must apply for renew your status as a permanent resident before this time period expires. If you have a conditional card, it may expire within 2 years. 2-year cards may not be eligible for renewal.

  • Q + A Why Hire Figueroa-Contreras Law Group?

The steps involved in any immigration case can be complex, and the U.S. government examines applicants intensely. Our attorney can help you navigate the complexities of the legal process and avoid needless setbacks so you can begin the next chapter of your life.

  • Q + A How Do I Determine My Eligibility?

While it is true that there are a variety of paths to permanent residency, not everyone will qualify. Typically, a potential immigrant must be sponsored by a close family member such as a fiancé or spouse, work in a highly sought after occupation, or meet refugee or asylum requirements.
